The detailed rules governing the application of harmonized sales tax (HST) to the asset management industry were finally released on May 20, 2010. This leaves barely a month to prepare for billing of investment services under the new “place of supply” rules and to address the systems needs and tax elections relating to mutual funds, segregated funds and pension funds.
