This year we will focus on three major challenges to the Canadian oil and gas industry’s existing business model, as well as opportunities for solutions based on the current economic environment.
Customers: We’ll look at future demand growth, especially in India and China, and ask if our present industry model will accommodate new customer challenges.
Carbon: We’ll look at the issue of carbon, where grassroots activism and climate policy initiatives have gained momentum. Has industry begun to work towards becoming part of the solution in an increasingly climate conscious operating environment?
Costs: We’ll look at the relatively high costs associated with Canadian oil sands and LNG export projects. The price rout is challenging decades-old business models, and as a result, will industry have to reconfigure to better accommodate volatility.
