According to this year's Global Forest, Paper and Packaging Industry Survey, Canadian companies had a challenging year in 2007, reporting net losses of $1.1 billion, up from $166 million in 2006. Of the 13 Canadian companies included in this year's survey, 10 reported losses.
PricewaterhouseCoopers' annual Global Forest, Paper and Packaging Industry Survey, now in its 11th year, tracks the year-over-year financial performance of the world's 100 largest forest, paper, and paper-based packaging companies with publicly available information. It looks at the aggregate industry numbers and provides regional analysis, focusing on metrics such as sales, net earnings, return on capital employed (ROCE) and the rate at which capital is reinvested.
