On February 6, representatives from 10 public sector organizations in Edmonton attended a round table discussion around expense governance and due diligence. The event was designed to provide a networking opportunity, as well as address the new policies on government expenditures.

Jean McClellan, a partner in PwC’s Public Sector Consulting and Deals practice welcomed the guests to the event, speaking about the most important features of the new government policy. Arun Gupta, a partner in our Consulting and Deals practice, touched on some of the challenges with the policy.

They gave the opportunity for attendees to voice their own concerns and challenges in implementing the provisions. They also helped explore potential solutions for these challenges, covering people, process and technology components.

“The new provisions raise the bar on accountability and public transparency for public sector organizations in Alberta. Changes help these organizations stay efficient. It’s also important that we don’t lose sight of the end objective and create too much bureaucracy,” Gupta said.

Arun Gupta has a broad cross section of experience working with our public sector, health-care, oil and gas, and utilities clients on consulting engagements, internal audits, IT audits, operational audits, governance and ERM for the last 20 years. Jean McClellan’s practice includes valuation and fairness opinions, litigation support services, insurance claim services, economic and financial analysis, corporate transaction support and performance improvement.
