Making the balance sheet strong

For Alberta companies, it's no longer business as usual. Cash - once abundant - is now scarce, thanks to dwindling profits.

Virtually all sectors - energy, real estate, services companies - are in a transitional period and organizations in these sectors must take the necessary steps to become well-capitalized. Doing so will make them more agile during the upturn and help them edge out their competition when the economy fully recovers.

To shore up the balance sheet, companies can find alternative sources of capital, sell non-core assets, or find ways to help reduce costs. The business leaders that are proactive and start to build sustainability into their capital structures will position their companies to make the most of the new reality that's already taking shape.
