Understanding the perspective of the Canadian CEO

Every year, PwC conducts a survey of CEOs around the world in order to take a pulse on the business environment and to identify emerging trends, issues and prospects. This year, we surveyed over 1,200 CEOs from 60 countries, including 130 in Canada.

Following the release of this year’s survey in January at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, we discussed the results with the directors of a number of Canadian companies in order to get their perspectives on the findings. As a result of these conversations, we identified four significant themes for Canadian directors from this year’s survey:

  • Growth in an era of uncertainty;
  • Focus on mature markets over international expansion;
  • More cost-efficiency over R&D and innovation; and
  • Talent sustainability and the Gen Y challenge.

This report highlights the results related to each of these themes and discusses how directors can act on the results to become more strategic in the boardroom.
