As provincial governments across Canada struggle to determine the best mechanisms to curb greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, a patchwork of systems is emerging. In this issue, we review recent government budgets, initiatives and regulatory developments in Canada's four largest provinces. Alberta and Ontario are clearly advocating different emissions trading systems, while Québec has implemented a carbon tax approach, and British Columbia is implementing a combination of carbon tax and emissions trading programs. Other provinces have been relatively silent on their climate change approach, likely in anticipation of the federal climate change regulations.
Find out how your province is addressing the issue of GHG emissions, and what it means for your company.
