Greater Toronto Area (GTA)

Dave Forster

GTA Managing Partner

Welcome to PwC’s Greater Toronto Area (GTA) offices. I hope you find the information on this site useful as you begin your journey towards becoming a Chartered Accountant. It provides you with lots of information to help you understand more about our GTA practice, people and national firm.

As you explore the different parts of this site, you’ll notice that this is an exciting time for PwC in the GTA. Our downtown offices are gearing up for a move to PwC Tower, our new home at 18 York Street. More than a new office building, PwC Tower will set the pace for environmental leadership as we pursue LEED Gold status. In each of our sites, we’ve centred our efforts on creating people-focused environments that support collaboration, building relationships and creating value. A large part of that is our emphasis on learning and development and we’re proud of the learning culture we’ve formed throughout our practices. You can read more about PwC Tower and other sites in the GTA in our Offices section.

New this year, you can pursue your CA in each of our lines of service, whether that’s Audit, Tax or Consulting & Deals. As you explore these opportunities available to you at PwC, I encourage you to reach out to our recruiters and staff with your questions. And make sure to attend the various events taking place on campus this fall. I always look forward to this time of the year, as it's an opportunity to meet with talented people like you.

I hope we have a chance to connect in person.

Sincerely,

Dave Forster
GTA Managing Partner

Tax

When you join the GTA’s Tax CATO program you’ll be offered a wide variety of learning experiences throughout our Tax practice that will allow you to gain the knowledge and skills for you to excel in your career. You’ll participate in our job rotational program which will give you valuable hands-on working experience in a number of industries and specialty groups. You’ll also have coaches and mentors to help you along the way. This Tax CATO program allows students to obtain their CA designation while becoming well-rounded business advisors and tax specialists.

Consulting

When you join our Consulting team you'll have the opportunity to become a technical expert, while learning all the skills necessary to become a trusted consultant and advisor. You'll be trained both in the classroom and on-the-job by leading experts in the field.

You'll work on a wide range of high profile projects with clients ranging from smaller privately owned businesses to multi-national organizations (which can mean exciting travel opportunities!). As you gain more knowledge and experience, you'll move on to the senior associate level, where you'll be able to select the area of expertise you'd like to focus on to create your own brilliant future.

To find out more, tell a recruiter you're interested in Consulting!

Deals

The Deals’ CA program allows you to obtain your CA through an alternate route to the traditional Audit and Assurance approach. You’ll rotate through four practice areas in a three-year period, including Transaction Service, Valuations, Corporate Restructuring and Corporate Finance.

The program is structured with your career progression in mind. You’ll start at the associate level in years one and two, and conditional on satisfactory performance, move to a senior associate level in year three.

You’ll be supported by a dedicated coach who has obtained their CA designation through your three-year rotation to give you consistent mentoring. When the program ends, you’ll have completed more than 3,000 billable hours, and your depth of knowledge will span six of the required practical CA Competency areas.

Our Downtown Toronto office is located in the heart of Toronto’s vibrant financial district. In the fall, we will move to our new environmentally-friendly home at PwC Tower at 18 York Street, which promises to be an exciting and innovative new space for our people.

The Toronto North office is located in the North American Life Building at the intersection of Yonge & Finch and is conveniently connected to the Finch Subway station. The office is also easily accessible by all major highways.

Our location in Mississauga, the sixth largest city in Canada, serves many of Canada’s top companies who have their head offices here. Close to an expansive shopping centre, you can spend your lunch breaks checking out great stores.

Approximately a one-hour drive from Toronto is our office in Hamilton, the third largest city in Ontario. Traditionally known as an industrial centre, Hamilton boasts a thriving art scene and club district.

Our York Region office is located in the heart of Concord, Ontario, and is a perfect location for commuters and is also central to lots of great shopping.

PwC understands that we have a responsibility to our environment and community. Here you’ll have the chance to get involved in local environmental committees to help make our offices more “green.” We also host an annual Green Week every spring where we plant trees and sell organic cookies to raise funds for organizations such as Evergreen. Through our Foundation, we help our people connect with other charitable organizations of interest to them. In 2010-2011, our GTA offices volunteered more than 8,000 hours in the community.

Examples of volunteer activities we have participated in include:
  • Covenant House
  • Daily Bread Food Bank
  • Evergreen
  • Starlight Children's Foundation

“As you transition into your role here at PwC, look into ways you can get involved with PwC initiatives. One such way is through the PricewaterhouseCoopers Foundation. The Foundation is an important part of our firm and allows you to share your skills outside of work. You can take part in volunteering activities and nominate charities for grants and much more!” — Drew, Senior Associate and PwC Foundation Champion (Downtown Toronto Office)

We believe in balancing work and leisure. We enjoy numerous social events to celebrate the various achievements of our people. At the end of our busy season, we host a Spring Break Party. We also recognize successful UFE writers with the UFE Results Party and welcome our new associates to the firm with Rookie Night.

Another way we balance work and leisure in some of our offices is through the Summer Fun Day. It's an opportunity for employees to get outside and participate in an activity with the rest of their team.

“While working for PwC as an associate, I found multiple opportunities to participate in sports with other PwC employees. In my first two years with the firm, I played on the PwC hockey, softball and multi-sport teams. I’ve also played golf with many of my peers and on the CA tennis league. It’s allowed me to stay fit and most of all build my network within PwC and with other CAs in the GTA.” — Rob, Associate (Downtown Toronto Office)

PwC’s In-House Uniform Final Examination (UFE) Preparation Program is designed to support you during the entire examination process. Led by professional instructors and markers from the PASS program, our extensive program includes 36 days of training and education for the three CA designation examinations: Core Knowledge Examination (CKE), School of Accountancy (SOA) and UFE. You’ll also be provided with all UFE materials and payment of UFE-related exam fees, along with ten weeks of paid and nine weeks of unpaid leave to participate in the program and to give you time to study and write your exams. As part of our UFE mentoring program, you’ll also be assigned a recent successful UFE writer, who’ll provide you with one-on-one guidance and support.

“When I joined PwC, the firm provided support in the form of a professional training program and a mentor system that helped with the transition to the new format of exams we were facing. After successfully completing the exam process, I joined the 2011 Mentor Committee. This was a very rewarding activity as I got the opportunity to use my experience in writing the exams to help co-workers in their own journey through the exam process.” — Sean, Senior Associate (Downtown Toronto Office)
