“When you start work, you’ll be assigned a coach. Your coach is there to guide you through your career development. They can help you with any question, whether it’s showing you how to claim expenses or logging your hours. They’ll also assist you in building relationships with clients. When we have performance appraisals, your coach will also act as your advocate. It’s important to know that as a new PwC employee you may not know all the answers but know there’s always someone around willing to help. All you have to do, is ask!” — Paula, Associate

PwC believes in helping to build and empower the communities in which we live and work through team volunteering, environmentally focused initiatives and charity fundraising campaigns. We encourage our staff to increase their involvement in the community by using their expertise and resources to make tangible and sustainable differences to the causes for which they are passionate about. In 2010-2011, our office volunteered more than 1,880 hours to local organizations. This volunteer time was through PwC’s Team Volunteering program which gives each staff member one paid day per year to go out and give back to the community. We also recognize the amazing efforts of our people through our annual Volunteer of the Year Award, which is given out at a special event to recognize all the nominees.

Some of the volunteering activities we’ve participated in include:
  • Calgary Humane Society
  • Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Hull Child & Family Services

Working hard and building relationships with each other and our clients is an important part of what we do every day. But we also remember to have fun along the way. To do this, our social committees plan multiple events throughout the year to give our staff a chance to relax and enjoy the company of our peers. Annually, we host town halls where we not only talk business but develop a setting where everyone has the opportunity to socialize with leaders and colleagues, outside of the office.

A sample of our fun activities from this past year includes:
  • Calgary Corporate Challenge
  • Ski trips
  • Softball Tournament
  • Stampede events
  • Golf Tournaments
  • United Way Campaign

“One activity that I really enjoyed was the national horse jumping competition. It gave us summer students a chance to experience a competition that most of us had never seen. We not only got to see the show and spend the day socializing and relaxing with other PwC people, but we were also given a guided tour of the world-class jumping course. Simply put, it was a fantastic day!” — Abisola, Summer Student

“Passing the UFE is the most difficult component to becoming a CA. The support that PwC gives, through their UFE preparation courses, has helped to expand my case writing and has given me time off to study. That’s helped make me more confident that I’ll succeed. It’s invaluable to have 30 of my peers go through this process with me!” — Chris, Associate
