Customs targets light-duty automotive goods for audits

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has revealed that companies that import “light-duty automotive goods”—both vehicles and parts—will be a national priority for Agency audits in the coming year, aimed specifically at examining the value that was declared for customs purposes.

If the CBSA auditors determine that the value that was declared does not comply with the requirements of the Customs Act, they can retroactively assess duties, taxes and penalties.
