Driving discussion to motivate partnerships between corporate and not-for-profit leaders

Capacity building, actions that boost a not-for-profit’s ability and effectiveness to deliver greater help to their communities, has long been an area of interest for the not-for-profit sector, funders and the broader community. Some questions that continue to surround this topic include:

• What is organizational capacity and why does it matter?
• What are the key elements of "capacity building?"
•  How is an organization’s capacity, including its strengths and gaps, assessed?

The PricewaterhouseCoopers Canada Foundation explored these questions in our paper Capacity Building: Investing in not-for-profit effectiveness by hosting a series of roundtable discussions with members of not-for-profit sector organizations, private foundations and major corporations. By sharing the results of the roundtable dialogues in this paper, we hope to obtain more feedback and host ongoing conversations with corporate and not-for-profit stakeholders.
