Women in the spotlight: Rebecca

At PwC, we foster an inclusive culture. And we believe the best way to show that commitment is by letting our own people share their stories. Caroline, Rebecca, Isabel, Janet and Elrene are just a few who inspire us every day.

Rebecca's story: The path from London to Hamilton

My career started with PwC in London, where I joined the firm as a graduate in 2001. I worked within the general insurance department of our actuary practice, which meant I worked with clients with all sorts of insurance risks from UK automobile liabilities to large scale worldwide catastrophe reinsurance cover.

Being based in London for the first nine years of my career gave me early exposure to a number of large multi-national insurance and reinsurance clients, as well as to Lloyd’s of London. The variability of client size and business type gave me a great grounding in the fundamentals of actuarial work and enabled me to determine what area I would like to specialise in going forward.

In October 2010, I was given the opportunity to expand both my general reinsurance and captive market knowledge by moving to PwC Bermuda to help build their actuary practice. This has been a key stepping stone in my career. In addition to building my technical, client relationship, and general business skills, this experience has given me the opportunity to help develop and grow our team, and gain experience in leading a group. During this time, I have developed many new skills and qualities that will be valuable for my future career whether that be in my home country or overseas.
