Careers: Meet our people - David

‘Even though I did not grow up in Bermuda, my family roots are here and I have strong ties to the island. While at university, I spent a summer working in the accounting department of a Bermuda-based insurance company. My colleagues there were very encouraging when it came to choosing a career in accounting and it was through them that I was able to make contacts at each of the Big 4 firms on the island. PwC left the most lasting impression. Their image and reputation was polished and professional and they had a coaching culture that I knew I wanted to be a part of once I finished school.’

‘After completing my Honours degree in Business Administration at the University of Western Ontario’s Richard Ivey School of Business, I pursued a career with PwC. Through the connections I made with PwC Bermuda during my summer work experience, I secured an interview with PwC in Toronto. During my interactions with PwC Toronto I felt the same energy and professionalism that was prevalent with the Bermuda firm. I had already formed a connection with the people at PwC, so I knew it was going to be a great fit all around. After joining PwC Toronto, I studied for and achieved my chartered professional accountant designation while working there.’

‘I also had the opportunity to spend a year working at the PwC firm in Boston through PwC’s Global Mobility program. This was a great experience that exposed me to a whole new range of clients and really helped me grow professionally. Throughout my career I’ve had the opportunity to work with clients from the mining, insurance and reinsurance, entertainment and automotive industries. I especially enjoy being a part of different teams of various sizes as well as the client-facing aspect of my role as a manager.’

‘Making the move to PwC Bermuda felt like a natural progression in my career, as there is so much opportunity here. I wanted to be a part of Bermuda’s dynamic international (re)insurance industry and I was ready to take the next step professionally. Also, I had always wanted to reconnect with my roots, so it worked out perfectly.’

‘My career at PwC here in Bermuda is so gratifying. I work in the insurance and reinsurance group and my clients include some of the industry’s most high-profile companies. I’ve also had the opportunity to be a coach as well as be coached, which has allowed me to seek guidance and assistance when I’m juggling the demands of different client projects. The satisfaction that comes from accomplishing the goals set for a challenging client is very rewarding. PwC gives you all the necessary support, from training and coaching, to access to all the most current technical resources.’

‘Being an accountant is challenging, but the rewards are great. It’s something you won’t regret even if you decide to change your career path later in life. I know if that’s the choice I made, I would be able to put to good use the skills I have learned and continue to learn each day here at PwC, in another career. I have never looked back since deciding to be a chartered professional accountant, and thanks to PwC, I feel confident about my professional future.’
