HeadStart: Overview



We know that choosing a career path can be daunting. It’s a decision that will affect the rest of your life. You may already know what your dream job is, but not know how to get your foot in the door. Or you may have no idea what to do with your life, but have an interest in working in a business environment. We recognise that young people are ready to begin their professional careers at different stages, so we’ve created a series of programs designed to give you an advantage in choosing a career and introduce you to the opportunities available at PwC without having to make a lifelong commitment. We want you to learn about PwC to see if you’d like to embark on a rewarding career with us, and in the interim, you’ll acquire practical information and valuable business skills. Everything is geared towards giving you a HeadStart and helping you to develop your skills so you can make an informed decision about your future.

Let us introduce our HeadStart program. It’s a relationship building initiative that will provide support and assistance to you as you start out on your professional career – regardless of whether you’re in our Mentoring, Scholarship, Co-op, Summer internship or Associate program. All HeadStart programs are organised to work in conjunction with your school or university schedule.

HeadStart is about acquiring the exposure and experience you’ll need to develop as a professional. It will also help you cultivate a set of core competencies that will assist you to succeed in life, such as relationship-building, sharing and collaborating with colleagues, communication, self-development, open-mindedness, and integrity.

Not only will you learn about working in a business environment and what it’s like to work at PwC, you’ll acquire strong inter-personal skills that can’t be taught in a classroom - without having to make a commitment to PwC until you are ready.
  • Mentoring – If you’re still in high school, but have an interest in business, you may want to consider our mentoring program. You’ll be appointed your own dedicated PwC mentor who’ll advise you on everything you ever wanted to know about business. You’ll gain a better perspective of the business world and what’s important if you are to succeed in business, and in life. This program will give you a distinct advantage in choosing a career before you even start university.
  • Scholarship – Our scholarship provides so much more than just a financial reward. Throughout your time at university, you’ll receive guidance and support from your own PwC mentor and the opportunity to join our Intern program during summer and our Associates program on graduation.
  • Co-op students and Summer interns – These programs are designed for university students who already understand basic business fundamentals. Where you’ll get a HeadStart is in what you’ll learn about working in teams and the extent of choices available to you within the firm, as well as acquiring more advanced personal effectiveness skills and a greater appreciation for corporate social responsibility.
  • Associates – If you’re about to graduate from university you should consider our Associates program in order to gain valuable professional experience. By the end of the program, you’ll have acquired knowledge about the importance of working in specialist industry groups, gained substantially in personal confidence and technical skills, and be far more sure of your future career direction.
