Managing tomorrow’s people Managing tomorrow’s people
Much has been written about millennials, but how much do we really understand about their expectations of work? Demographic shifts show the steady creep upwards of life expectancy in many parts of the world, whilst at the same time birth-rates are in rapid decline in most of the old economies. Even Latin America, the US and Asia are heading towards a ‘greying’ of the population. These dramatic shifts will lead to an unprecedented shortage of younger workers and the need to keep employees working until well past current retirement ages. The idea that companies would source talent needs from an unlimited supply of workers from emerging markets has not materialised. Talent shortages are just as critical in China, India, Eastern Europe and parts of South America.

Recent events have clearly demonstrated the extent to which the world is interconnected. The crisis which began in the US banking system has spread through the global economy as a whole – and no region has emerged unscathed. This historic moment provides an unprecedented opportunity for companies, governments and individuals to think more deeply about the sophisticated eco-systems of which we are all a part.

12th Annual Global CEO Survey 12th Annual Global CEO Survey

CEOs around the world are retrenching, indeed many claim to be entering ‘survival mode.’ Our 12th Annual Global CEO survey shows how the financial crisis shattered short-term confidence. The percentage of CEOs who were ‘very confident’ about their one-year revenue growth prospects dropped to 21%, the lowest level in six years. Uncertainty about the future is still running high and confidence no doubt continued to deteriorate after we completed the survey in early December.

The day after tomorrow The day after tomorrow
Systemic problems require systemic solutions. The financial crisis started in one corner of the US mortgage market, but the fallout from the collapse of the sub-prime lending bubble has spread across the globe via the disintermediation of the originate-to-distribute banking model. What began as a crisis for individual markets and institutions has now undermined the foundations of the entire global financial system.

Renewables Deals 2008 Renewables Deals 2008

Renewables Deals includes analysis of all global renewable power sector deal activity. We define this as all deals relating to power generation by biofuels (incl. biomass, biodiesel and ethanol), solar, wind, hydro, tidal/wave and geothermal sources. We include deals relating to manufacturers and developers of renewable technologies (for example, wind turbine manufacturers and solar technology firms), which we identify in a separate ‘technology’ category. We exclude deals relating to nuclear power assets, those centred on energy efficiency, and purchases of development rights.

The World in 2050 The World in 2050

We first looked at this issue in a September 2006 report, which suggested that halting and eventually reversing the growth of global carbon emissions, although challenging, should be both technologically feasible and economically affordable.

Carbon disclosure
