Servicing a desire for growth

The services sector will be the new engine of growth for Vietnam, writes Andrew Chan Yik Hong, a PricewaterhouseCoopers executive director in corporate finance leading its infrastructure, government and utilities practices in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

Growth in the services sector is what fuels overall economic growth. Thus far, the services sector in Vietnam has been a poor second cousin to the manufacturing sector. Currently, the services sector in Vietnam is underdeveloped and uncompetitive. Given the right focus, the services sector could take up the slack of the current global economic crisis and lessen the burden on export-led manufacturing.
