Six key considerations for transferring wealth
Taiwan’s newly revised law on gift and estate taxes sets a single low rate of 10%. This obviates the need for much tax planning, but timing of transfers, trusts, succession planning and other key issues should not be overlooked. (Howard Kuo)
A new “take” on directors’ salaries
Directors on the boards of public companies in Taiwan have long gotten away with deciding their own salaries, with the compensation of individual directors hidden from enquiring eyes. It would be better to require at least semi-independent compensation committees to decide such matters, and to insist on robust disclosure of compensation details. (Eric Tsai)
