Policy and Regulatory Advice

The examination of regulatory impacts can make a significant difference to the effectiveness of government and business strategy. Our team has experience in carrying out regulatory impact analysis and in reviewing cases for a change in regulatory approach. A combination of economic technical skills coupled with proven policy and business expertise makes our advice practical and focused on areas of added value.

PricewaterhouseCoopers has locally and internationally based economic, financial and policy advisers who work with public and private sector clients to design, implement and evaluate economic policy and regulatory frameworks.

Our client base spans central government (government departments and Crown entities), local government and the private sector. For our public sector clients, the work we have done with the private sector means that we are able to draw on practical knowledge and first-hand experience of assessing the compliance cost, and wider economic, impacts of economic and regulatory frameworks.

Our work with public sector clients means that we fully understand government objectives and economic policy frameworks and are able to efficiently apply our knowledge and expertise to a wide range of policy and regulatory issues.

Our work involves:

  • economic impact assessment; that is, measuring the economic and social impacts (public and private benefits and costs) of an activity or policy from a business perspective and/or on a regional, national and trans-national basis
  • policy advice and analysis; identifying desired policy objectives and evaluating alternative ways of achieving those objectives
  • assessments of, and advice in relation to, economic and regulatory frameworks (e.g. compliance cost assessments/review of competitive analysis prepared by business clients for the Commerce Commission) and regulatory impact statements.
