The GST honeymoon is over. The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has moved from ‘education’ to ‘compliance’ mode in relation to the Business Activity Statement (BAS), raising the bar in terms of ATO expectations.
Surprisingly however, an estimated 90% of Australian businesses are still incorrectly compiling their BAS, resulting in significant errors in GST paid and credits claimed, and an increased risk of penalties. Are you one of the 90%?
