Environmental Due Diligence
Are environmental risks and liabilities affecting your business in any of the following areas?

  • Operational issues including contamination, emissions, waste management and materials management.
  • Legal issues that include compliance with current and future national and international environmental legislation, liability for clean up of contaminated sites and/or decommissioning of plant, legal action by statutory authorities or third parties and changes in environmental law.
  • Reputational issues. Reputational risks related to the environment might include, for example, how and where an organisation operates and types of products produced and marketed.
  • Market and supply chain issues. Pressures on a business may also arise via the supply chain, for example, clients of an organisation might stipulate in contract agreements that certain environmental standards are met.

We assess risks and liabilities against:
  • Past activities carried out on and around operational sites;
  • Current activities, including legal requirements; and
  • Future activities and legal requirements that might affect the performance of operations.

As well as risks, environmental issues might also present opportunities for example energy savings and waste minimisation programmes. Whilst environmental opportunities are unlikely to be at the forefront of an Environmental Due Diligence assignment, they should be considered when reporting recommendations on how management and performance of the business might be improved.

Life Cycle Assessments
Do you want to know what is the best solution for the environment between two means of transports: a diesel car and an electrical car …

To make an accurate judgement on the above, an accurate comparison between two different transport means and their global environmental impacts (resources depletion, air emissions ,water emissions, waste generation) needs to be formulated. In other words, the impacts concerned with each of the transport means need to be taken into account as far as production, use and end of life is concerned.

PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Life Cycle Assessment Services team is a recognised leader in LCA consulting. With more than 10 years of client-related experience in this area, our service group has established three fields of expertise.
  • Licensing of the PwC propriety software Tool for Environmental Assessment and Management (TEAMŽ) to develop and maintain your own company inventory and perform in-house LCA studies.
  • Verification of LCA studies or components thereof to assist companies in optimised use of the results.
  • Full LCA studies for companies including awareness workshops, data gathering, modelling and simulation as well as result analysis.
