The Insights into Transformation - June 2008
The Insights into Transformation study was undertaken between October 2007 and March 208. It shares first hand insight from CEO’ and transformation leaders including Orica, Myer, Telstra, Department of Main Roads Queensland, National Foods and AGL Energy.
In the study CEOs shared the seven areas in which they had learnt lessons in seven areas. The lessons are:
- Lesson 1: Successful transformation requires agility and a shared understanding of the current and predicted drivers for change
- Lesson 2: Building and effective management team to lead change is important but so is the flexibility of the CEO’s personal leadership style.
- Lesson 3: The customer should remain central at all points in the transformation process
- Lesson 4: Effective communication requires early and ongoing stakeholder planning & Management
- Lesson 5: Making culture change stick is a core ingredient of successful transformations
- Lesson 6: Successful execution is impossible without early baselining of “as is” and development of clear metrics to achieve the transformation vision
- Lesson 7: Leaders must ensure business can continue as usual, which often requires more resources than planned
