Tax Watch - August 2007

Finally we have a tax amnesty in Uganda, but you must act now, or else…..!*

In his budget speech of 14th June 2007, the Honourable Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Dr Ezra Suruma proposed an amnesty on penalties and interest to all taxpayers who shall voluntarily disclose and pay their outstanding tax liabilities to the URA. The Minister’s pronouncement is now contained in the Finance Bill 2007. Following this, the Commissioner General of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) issued a Public Notice on the 30th July 2007, which gives taxpayers guidelines on how the tax amnesty will work.
