Majors turn up the volume

PricewaterhouseCoopers' analysis of the major banks' full year results, reveals that they have continued a trend of strong earnings growth by delivering total FY06 profits of $15.1 billion, up 13.7 per cent on last year. A key factor has been volume increases of 14 per cent in loans, which has offset margin compression of 7 basis points (bps).

The short term outlook for the four major banks is generally positive. At a macro level, credit growth will continue, albeit at a slower rate, partly due to the current drought conditions. Future interest rate rises may also take their toll. To find out more, download your copy of Perspectives:
