Profile: Ben Wheaton

Ben is a PricewaterhouseCoopers partner from the climate change services business in Melbourne. He has been with PwC for 25 years and over that time has gained experience in Europe, the US and Asia Pacific in roles including strategy, tax compliance and systems integration.

This trip marks Ben’s first expedition to the Arctic – indeed, to anywhere this extreme.

Ben is not unfamiliar with the region, however. When he and his family moved from the UK to Australia eleven years ago, he struck up a friendship with Eric Philips, who is the third member of the North Pole Expedition team, and their polar guide.

Close friends several years, Ben has been hearing first-hand of Eric’s expeditions and quietly planning his own trip. The catalyst came in November 2006, when Ben was one of 75 people in Australia trained by Al Gore to deliver the ‘Inconvenient Truth’ presentation. Since then, Ben has presented the compelling slide show about global warming show to around 2,000 Australians.

Ben will bring his theoretical knowledge of the impact global warming is having on the Arctic region and return with first-hand knowledge and images.
